Bishop squeezed my shoulder with one hand and dug his keys out of his pocket with the other, and handed them to me. “I’ll catch a ride with the chief and swap my car for yours tomorrow.”

I gave him my keys.

“I’m staying,” Savannah said. She’d walked over and wrapped her arm around my waist.

“You don’t have to,” I said. “Who has Scarlet?”

“Grandma Abernathy came to watch her. She won’t mind spending the day with her.”

“Really, it’s okay,” I said.

“I’m not arguing this.” She kissed Jimmy on the cheek. “Text me when you get home.”
